San Francisco, California – (The Hosting News) – March 3, 2009 – Carrier-grade messaging security firm, Cloudmark, Inc.’s chief technology officer, Jamie de Guerre, recently participated as a contributor to GSMA’s Mobile World Congress.

The panel of security experts discussed the evolving security needs of mobile operators and consumers in light of emerging trends, technologies and threats, as part of the event’s technology conference, which took place in Barcelona, Spain. Additional panelists included experts from CellTrust Corp., eBay U.S., Juniper Networks, McAfee Mobile, Research In Motion and Symantec Corporation.

Session TEC-204, ”Assessing and Solving the New Security Challenges Posed by Emerging Trends and Technologies: Panel on the Evolving Security Needs of Operators and Consumers,” was a Mobile Security and Protection Session, designed to provide a comprehensive analysis of the threats posed by the next generation of telecom services and technologies. It’s a solutions-based discussion that aims to inform operators of future challenges and also showcase some of the best ways for them to protect their services and networks.

The session explored the evolving security risks of open access platforms, mobile financial services, Web 2.0 and devices, as well as discuss what can be done to minimize these risks via virtualization and other techniques. The session looked beyond the hype to address the real threat the industry faces from text message spam, SMS spoofing and faking, on-network abuse, mobile botnets and smishing. It also explored the security threat to the enterprise posed by the increased functionality of smart phones.
The GSMA’s Mobile World Congress is the world’s premiere meeting place for the global mobile industry, with more than 50,000 visitors expected.
