Dublin, Ireland – (The Hosting News) – March 11, 2009 – Internet infrastructure services firm, Afilias, has expanded its technology with a new Managed DNS Service to assist organizations with managing Internet traffic.

John Kane, Vice President of Corporate Services for Afilias remarked, ”For most corporations, DNS is critical, but it is not their core competency. Afilias’ Managed DNS service allows organizations to have the peace of mind of relying on an expert to ensure that their Web site never goes down.”

Afilias Managed DNS leverages Afilias’ existing global DNS network that already supports critical pieces of the Internet’s infrastructure in its registry services business. An Internet domain registry for eight years, Afilias supports over 14 million domain names across 15 top-level domains, including some of the world’s largest domains like .info and .org. This highly secure and proven DNS network is now available on a stand-alone basis at competitive rates, allowing non-registry customers to upgrade to world class service while saving money – a key benefit in the current economic environment.

Afilias’ state of the art DNS network ensures security and resiliency through a diverse architecture that no other service provider can replicate. Its multi-layered, tiered design uses multiple hardware and software solutions, multiple bandwidth providers, and is dispersed across numerous geographic locations. The network is further strengthened by supplemental external DNS support that augments Afilias’ own resolution systems.  Afilias’ mesh network currently includes 18 locations across five continents and is designed to defend against cyber-attacks, regardless of the origin.

Mr. Kane added, ”Afilias’ Managed DNS Services are perfect for organizations that want to ensure 100% uptime of their web site, are frustrated by the complicated pricing plans of other providers, and who want more control over and transparency into their DNS traffic.”

Afilias’ Managed DNS Service offers customers an industry-leading web portal to manage their account, a full reporting suite with hundreds of standard near real time reports and graphs, and enhanced security services to prevent account hijacking. Monthly and annual Managed DNS Service plans are available now.
In addition, the company released the beta launch of 1-Click DNSSECTM , an enhancement to its Managed DNS Service, that allows organizations, corporations and government agencies to enable DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) on their domains, quickly and easily. Afilias is currently accepting ‘proof of concept’ testing customers and expects to officially rollout 1-Click DNSSECTM as a service available to all of the Afilias Managed DNS customers later this year.

Mr. Kane explained, ”Afilias’ 1-Click DNSSEC makes it simple and cost-effective to implement DNSSEC, as it requires no new customer hardware or software and it eliminates customer worries about issuing, distributing or maintaining DNSSEC keys. DNSSEC adoption has been slowed in the past by these costly and complex stumbling blocks, but Afilias has solved these problems.  1-Click DNSSEC is a complete solution and allows anyone to sign their zone with one simple click.”
Afilias’ 1-Click DNSSEC is an add-on service to its Managed DNS product that already provides users with the most diverse, globally available infrastructure to manage traffic to their Web presence. In addition to Afilias’ 100% uptime guarantee, 1-Click DNSSECTM  will provide users with:

Automatic creation of the public/private keys required for DNSSEC
Seamless key management and key rollover
Easy coordination with participating ICANN-accredited registrars sponsoring the  domains to be signed
Distribution of public keys to parent zones, Trust Anchor Repositories and DNSSEC Look-Aside Validation (DLV) registries.

Mr. Kane added, ”Afilias is uniquely positioned to leverage our DNSSEC technology, already chosen to power the DNSSEC enablement for .org, and our existing relationships with ICANN accredited registrars to offer this full end-to-end managed service. Afilias’ solution makes it possible for organizations or government agencies to have the security of DNSSEC and the convenience of effortless management, all rolled into one solution.”
Ram Mohan, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Afilias noted, ”With the signing of domains such as .org and .gov this year and the possible signing of the Root imminent, Afilias’ 1-Click DNSSEC solution may be able to help speed the market to finally see our first fully DNSSEC compliant zones.”
Afilias will be demonstrating its 1-Click DNSSECTM  service during GovSec in Washington D.C. March 11-12, 2009. Visit Afilias at booth # 301 or www.afilias.info/1-click-dnssec for additional information on Afilias’ 1-Click DNSSECTM solution.

DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) was first introduced in the mid-1990s as an additional security measure to protect the DNS from cache poisoning exploits which can allow a bad actor to get in the middle of an Internet users’ request to access a web site without their knowledge. The protocol officially became an RFC in 2005. In 2008, The Public Interest Registry announced that, in conjunction with their technical services provider Afilias, they would sign .org. Also in 2008, the US Office of Management and Budget issued a mandate for .mil and .gov to be signed. The US Department of Commerce is currently considering implications of signing the official Internet Root. Additional information on DNSSEC is available at: www.afilias.info/dnssec.
Afilias is a global provider of Internet infrastructure services that connect people to their data. Afilias’ reliable, secure, scalable, and globally available technology supports a wide range of applications including Internet domain registry services, Managed DNS, and services in the RFID and supply chain market with its Afilias Discovery Services.
