New York, New York – (The Hosting News) – March 11, 2009 – Wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a global IP network services provider, NTT America, recently revealed the results and achievements in Global IP Network business for 2008.

Kazuhiro Gomi, CTO of NTT America and vice president of the NTT Communications Global IP Network remarked, ”We feel fortunate to have had a great year in 2008, a year that included significant accomplishments and honors, and we will continue to build on this momentum in 2009. We remain steadfast in our mission to bring the highest quality service and best support to our customers worldwide.”
The last year was distinguished by several strategic customer wins; the advancement of the company’s Global IP Network-one of the largest dedicated Internet backbone networks in the world; awards and recognition from leading government and telecommunications organizations; and the company’s continued commitment to remain a leader in the adoption of and advocacy for IPv6, the next-generation Internet protocol.
Highlights from 2008 include:
Customer Wins:
A variety of web-based applications for both business and consumers are escalating bandwidth demand. Companies are either evaluating or deploying cloud computing initiatives, SaaS and are using web conferencing on a much larger scale – all high bandwidth. For consumers, online gaming, social networks like Twitter and Facebook, and YouTube, have dramatically changed bandwidth requirements. In 2008, NTT America saw more than 700 percent growth in the purchase of the company’s dual-stack bandwidth, and a significant increase in 10GigE and GigE ports provisioned.

In March, The Planet chose NTT America to deliver IPv6 functionality to its network, offering more than 22,000 customers access to IPv6.
In September, NTT America provided the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) with a dual stack over a GigE connection. The GigE connection, at speeds up to 1,000 megabits per second (mbps), running both IPv4 and IPv6 or dual stack, ensures website and e-mail communications to and from ARIN are visible over both IPv4 and IPv6. Additionally, all other systems or communications ARIN operates can continue running over IPv6.

Technology Investments:
Critical for global business, NTT Com’s infrastructure investments last year in the Global IP Network culminated in the creation of a diverse Internet path and also included investments in green IT solutions.

In July, NTT Com and the TransTeleCom Company CJSC (TTK), Russia’s leading telecommunications backbone operator, announced operation of the Hokkaido-Sakhalin Cable System (HSCS), which directly links the two companies’ telecom networks via an undersea cable between Nevelsk, Sakhalin in Russia and Ishikari, Hokkaido, Japan. The route is an addition to NTT Com’s global IP Tier 1 network covering Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America, with connection to major ISPs worldwide.
Also in July, NTT America enhanced the capacity of the company’s Global IP Network by installing Juniper’s T1600 core multi-terabit routers, which cut power consumption by as much as 20 percent, and doubled the network capacity without any increase in datacenter space requirements.

Advocacy and Advancement of IPv6:
As IPv4 addresses continue to decrease and subscriber demand for compelling new applications that call for IPv6, such as IPTV and multiplay services, continues to grow, NTT America has remained a leader in its implementation of IPv6 and advocacy for IPv6 adoption.

In January, NTT America was selected by the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee (ICAC) to demonstrate NTT Com’s IPv6 Internet-based Earthquake Early Warning System at the 11th Annual ICAC Kickoff Technology Policy Exhibition at the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C.
In May, NTT America was invited by the European Commission to speak and participate at European IPv6 Day, an event hosted by the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
Also in May, the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) featured NTT Com in the report, ”Internet Address Space: Economic Considerations in the Management of IPv4 and in the Deployment of IPv6.” The company was featured for leadership in deploying IPv6 networks that communicate alerts of impending earthquakes to people in Japan.
In July, NTT America donated a GigE link to the Internet Systems Consortium, Inc. (ISC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation, significantly improving ISC’s IPv6 infrastructure.

Awards and Recognition:
NTT America was proud to be recognized by several esteemed organizations in 2008 for the company’s continued influence on IPv6, network services and customer satisfaction.

In March, IDC’s Government Insights named NTT America to the industry short list of companies having the most influence today on IPv6. The report, ”Top 20 IPv6 Influencers Working with the U.S. Government,” was aimed at U.S. federal agencies.
In April, NTT Com was named Best Wholesale Carrier at the Telecom Asia Awards for Global IP Network Service and services incorporating IPv6 and advanced security technologies.
Also, in April, NTT Com received three Diamond (best-in-class) Awards in a Telemark Customer Satisfaction Survey in the categories of Top 10 Attributes, Pricing and Billing.

Global Expansion:
As the Internet continues to fuel global business expansion, the NTT Communications Global IP Network remains focused on connecting all continents to provide efficient and accessible transit at the highest speeds. The latest efforts are devoted to the countries of Latin America where NTT America is actively supporting the telecommunications sector through memberships in regional organizations.

In November, NTT America and NTT do Brasil broadened NTT Com’s international base through a new membership in AHCIET, the Ibero-American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication Enterprises, a prestigious association of more than 50 Latin American and Spanish telecommunications operator companies, and a meeting place for the main actors of the market.

NTT America is North America’s natural gateway to the Asia-Pacific region, with strong capabilities in the U.S. market. NTT America is the U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, the global data and IP services arm of the Fortune Global 500 telecom leader: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). NTT America provides world-class Enterprise Hosting, managed network, and IP networking services for enterprise customers and service providers worldwide.
NTT Com delivers high-quality voice, data and IP services to customers around the world. The company is renowned for its diverse information and communication services, expertise in managed networks, hosting and IP networking services, and industry leadership in IPv6 transit technology. The company’s extensive global infrastructure includes Arcstar private networks and a Tier 1 IP backbone (connected with major ISPs worldwide), both reaching more than 150 countries, as well as secure data centers in Asia, North America and Europe. NTT Com is the wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, one of the world’s largest telecoms with listings on the Tokyo, London and New York stock exchanges.
